D.I.Y: Color-Blocked Oxfords

Keep calm and color on!

This is a surprisingly easy D.I.Y. All you need is a paint brush, disposable tupperware filled with water to clean your brush, one tube of acrylic paint (I used Liquitex: Basics Acrylic Color) and one pair of oxford shoes (I bought this pair from Forever 21 for $24). It takes about 5 total coats of paint in order for the shoe color to not shine through. Also, an important note, you must wait for each coat to dry before applying another one! I set up a fan on my desk to make things move a bit quicker. And one last thing, there's no need to water down the paint. It's ok for the acrylic to be on the thicker side. Now, the fun part is deciding which area to "color-block" and what color to paint it! For more color ideas see Cole Haan's and Esquivel's new lines. I'll be here to help with any questions!

  1. I think that if the oxfords are perforated, you should stuff paper in the shoe to avoid getting paint inside. But thanks for this idea; I'm going to try it out.
